Dermalux LED

LED (Light Emitting Diode) light therapy uses near infrared, blue and red light to energise the skin cells, increase blood flow and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin for optimal skin rejuvenation.

At ERA Skin & Laser Clinic, serving Thame, Aylesbury, and Oxford, we use Dermalux LED, a safe and effective non-invasive treatment.

LED light therapy leaves your skin visibly plumper and more radiant after just one treatment, whilst stimulating cellular activity beneath the surface of the skin to create a healthy, long-lasting effect. It improves skin tone, texture, and common skin concerns such as acne.

This relaxing 30-minute treatment can be booked as a one-off treatment or as a course of weekly treatments.

FAQ's

What areas of the skin can be treated?

Dermalux is a non-invasive treatment that uses the most clinically proven LED light wavelengths or light colours (red, blue, and near infrared) to energise skin cells and trigger the skins’ natural rejuvenating and healing processes to treat a wide range of conditions.

The red, blue, and near infrared (NIR) lights or Tri-Wave™ technology can be used on their own or in combination for optimal results.

Generally, we use red light to treat uneven skin tones, complexion concerns, enlarged pores, and early signs of fine lines and wrinkles as it stimulates the natural production of collagen and elastin within the skin. This treatment also improves the circulation in the skin of the face and can help give a hydrating boost to the skin, leaving you appearing plumper and more youthful once circulation and lymphatic drainage is stimulated.

Blue light has proven anti-bacterial properties and is known to kill the bacteria responsible for causing acne. It also provides a calming and tightening effect so is great used alongside red light for full skin rejuvenation, to treat acne scarring, rosacea, and to target inflammatory acne where we want to reduce swelling and inflammation.

The near infrared light, which we cannot see with the naked eye is ideal for getting deeper into the skin layers and is the most intense option on the Dermalux Flex LED. It can be used alongside the red light to target more significant signs of ageing, or redness from rosacea. It tends to accelerate the rate at which the cells in the body naturally repair and is also proven to be helpful in wound healing and pain relief.

Will I need a consultation for LED light therapy?

A consultation is required before treatment to discuss your skin concerns, treatment goals, and any underlying health concerns which may affect your suitability. Your therapist can then tailor a specific LED light therapy treatment for you using our Dermalux Flex system.

What can I expect during treatment?

A Dermalux LED treatment is very relaxing and pain free, in fact many clients fall asleep during treatment; the experience has proven wellbeing effects. It does not generate heat, but you will experience a feeling of natural warmth due to the increase in blood circulation within your own body.

The Dermalux Flex device is shaped like an arch and is placed over your face and head while you lie on a treatment couch. You will be asked to wear special goggles or glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light and then the system will be turned on according to a pre-set light programme to target your skin concern. Your therapist may use a combination of lights during your treatment to ensure optimal results and will return once completed.

How long does an LED light therapy treatment take?

A session using the Dermalux LED Flex device take 30 minutes.

How many treatment sessions are recommended?

Your therapist will discuss the number of treatments recommended to treat your specific concerns, which may be as many as twelve. The number required for optimum results will vary and will consider your age, lifestyle, and skin condition.

An initial course of 6 sessions is usually a good recommendation for all skin concerns. Treatments taken in quick succession will generally achieve faster results, thus we recommended weekly sessions.

A single session under the Dermalux LED Flex is also great to give your skin a healthy glow before a special event.

Is Dermalux LED safe?

Dermalux LED is clinically proven to be safe for all skin types and when used on the most sensitive skin conditions.

The Dermalux system has one of the highest safety profiles of any skin care treatment. It does not generate heat or ultraviolet (UV) light wavelengths (unlike a sunbed) so it cannot damage skin tissue, give you a tan, or create photosensitivity.

What conditions are contraindicated for LED Light Therapy?

During your consultation, we will discuss any underlying medical conditions, medicines you are taking, and known allergies. Some medications and health conditions can cause photosensitivity, or an increased sensitivity to light exposure which make you unsuitable for LED treatment.

Although Dermalux is a very safe treatment, if you are pregnant, you will not be able to have treatment simply because the therapy has not been clinically tested on pregnant women.

Does Dermalux LED hurt?

Treatment is pain free and relaxing, with a warm feeling during treatment.

Is there downtime after a Dermalux light therapy treatment?

Your skin will not be irritated by exposure to the LED light.

There have been no reported side effects in over 3,000 published clinical studies for this type of treatment.

When will I see results?

You can expect an instant glow after each treatment session. As the LED light is stimulating your own skin cells to produce new collagen and elastin, you will notice natural improvements to your skin condition and skin health for up to several months after a course of treatments.

If we are using blue light for acne treatment, you will start to see a significant improvement in the quantity and severity of outbreaks. This treatment is great used alongside Hydrafacial [LINK] for those who suffer from acne.

How long do the results last?

The improvements achieved with a Dermalux LED light therapy treatment can last several months, or longer, depending on the initial skin concern being treated. However, we recommend using this treatment as part of your on-going skin health programme, thus regular maintenance sessions are recommended by our team, alongside other treatments to keep your skin in tip-top condition.
