EMSCULPT NEO is the latest advancement and modification to the original EMSCULPT device available at ERA Skin and Laser Clinic. This adds an additional energy therapy, radiofrequency (RF), to an established procedure for simultaneous fat elimination and muscle building. EMSCULPT NEO combines the RF with patented high intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM+) technology to reduce fat, build muscle, and help you to sculpt and create a beautiful body.

We can treat up to 10 different body areas, including the most stubborn areas to get rid of at the gym. Having the EMSCULPT NEO means we can provide the world’s first non-invasive buttock toning procedure to patients in Thame and the wider Oxfordshire area.
The EMSCULPT NEO system delivers supramaximal contractions to the treated area using the HIFEM+ energy, delivering the equivalent of 20,000 exercises in a single session. Supramaximal contractions enable 100% of the muscle to be exercised 100% of the time. This is impossible to do manually as our brain will only allow us to contract 40-60% of our muscle ordinarily. By adding in the RF at the same time, we combine this with deep dermal heating to breakdown fat cells so they are metabolised and removed.
EMSCULPT NEO is the only non-invasive system based on the simultaneous delivery of radiofrequency and high intensity focused electromagnetic energy (HIFEM+) for dual effect to build muscle and eliminate fat, enabling results in less time than stand-alone technologies.

What areas of the skin can be treated?
EMSCULPT NEO is suitable for women and men who have grabbable areas of fat, and for those with a body mass index (BMI) up to 35. It targets and reduces fat at the same time as building muscle. It can be used to treat 10 body areas including:
As we age our muscles start to deplete and we hold on to small pockets of fat, this happens more quickly after the menopause. Keeping these muscles strong has major health benefits. EMSCULPT NEO helps build muscle in the arms, tightening and toning lose skin, leading to more defined arms.
At ERA Skin & Laser Clinic, we also offer a Core to Floor treatment which includes treatment sessions with our EMSELLA Chair as a post-natal treatment for stress or urge incontinence.
We have other systems within the EM family at our clinic near Oxford, including EMTONE which can be combined with EMSCULPT NEO to improve body toning by targeting the main causes of cellulite. The EMFACE also uses electromagnetic energy and radiofrequency making it great for simultaneously treating the skin and muscles on the face for facial rejuvenation and lifting.
The EMSCULPT device is also ideal for those with a lower BMI who have less need for the fat reduction element that is combined in the EMSCULPT NEO and want to focus on muscle building. If you can only pinch a small area of excess fat in your abdomen, for example, or want to tone up your arms, then you may be better suited to the EMSCULPT treatment alone.
Will I need a consultation for EMSCULPT NEO?
Yes, you will need to attend a consultation before you can undergo treatment with EMSCULPT NEO to take a full medical history and rule out any underlying medical conditions, allergies, medications, or implants which would make you unsuitable for this treatment. If you are generally in good health, you should be able to have an EMSCULPT NEO treatment. Most people experience a great benefit from it, and it is suitable for men and women of all skin types.
What can I expect during treatment?
We recommend you wear something comfortable like gym gear, leggings, or lightweight clothing during treatment.
You will be shown to our treatment room and your practitioner will explain how the treatment works. There will be plenty of time to answer any further questions you may have. A special belt or strap will be placed over the area to be treated, such as around your abdomen, and the EMSCULPT NEO applicator(s) will be secured underneath, against your skin, ready to commence treatment. The system will be programmed to deliver the targeted electromagnetic energy pulses that cause your muscles to contract alongside the radiofrequency heating. Every timed cycle of EMSCULPT NEO provides the equivalent of over 20,000 crunches in a single treatment session. Treatment will begin, and you can relax whilst the EMSCULPT NEO does all the hard work for you!
Your practitioner is on hand to adjust the settings during treatment and will be monitoring your progress. They will regularly ask you how you feel. You will not be left unattended.
How long does EMSCULPT NEO take?
Each treatment session with EMSCULPT NEO is timed to 30 minutes. Your full appointment will be a little longer to allow for time to apply and remove the applicators.
How many treatment sessions are recommended?
A bespoke treatment programme will be designed for you to achieve the optimal results from EMSCULPT NEO and will depend on the area being targeted and your overall goal. Typically, we recommend a course of 4 treatment sessions per area spaced 5-10 days apart.
What conditions are contraindicated for EMSCULPT NEO?
If you are generally in good health, you should be able to have EMSCULPT NEO treatment. However, there are certain medical conditions that will preclude you from treatment, and we can discuss alternative options for you following a full consultation where your medical history will be evaluated.
Certain underlying medical conditions can mean that you are contraindicated for treatment. Examples include those which affect your heart, kidneys, or liver, diabetes, epilepsy, cancers, neurological disorders, or factors which impact on healing, scarring, blood coagulation, or immune system function.
Similarly, if you have an active bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infection in the area to be treated, this will need to be managed and resolved first. Other skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea also require management. Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use should not be within the last 12 months.
If you have any permanent implants near the area to be treated, including metal implants, you cannot be treated with radiofrequency. You will be required to remove any temporary metal implants, such as naval piercings. The same is true for electrical implants anywhere in the body, such as pacemakers or internal defibrillators which means we cannot treat you with electromagnetic energy and radiofrequency.
If you are pregnant, breast feeding or undergoing fertility treatment, you will also not be able to have treatment.
Does EMSCULPT NEO treatment hurt?
EMSCULPT NEO treatment is not painful and well tolerated by most people who describe a heating sensation combined with an intense pulsing or twitching sensation as the muscle is contracted. It is often likened to feeling like an intensive workout and a hot stone massage. You can lay down and relax during treatment.
Is there downtime after EMSCULPT NEO?
EMSCULPT NEO is a non-invasive treatment with no notable side effects. You will not need to rest after treatment, but you may experience some mild muscle soreness for up to 24 hours after a treatment session, much like after a high-intensity exercise workout, and some redness for a few hours where the applicator was placed from the radiofrequency heating. You can return to work and your normal activities immediately after treatment.
You can still go to the gym alongside treatment. Many of our clients choose to use EMSCULPT NEO to tone up prior to joining a gym or use the gym afterwards to further enhance their results.
When will I see results?
Everyone is different, and results will vary depending on your age, physical condition, body mass index (BMI), and your diet and lifestyle. Some patients see results immediately after their first session, but results are incremental as you eliminate the fat cells and build muscle so you should usually expect to see results after the first three sessions. Following your treatment course, the muscle continues to build, meaning that your results will continue to improve over the next three months.

How long does EMSCULPT NEO last?
Clinical studies show that the system causes irreversible cell death to the fat cells, making fat reduction long-lasting (assuming ongoing healthy living). Most people maintain these results, with fat reduction and muscle strength consistent for up to a year after their treatment programme. This can be further maintained with regular exercise.
Like all muscles, if not used regularly, they can weaken. Depending on your treatment goals you can opt to have a 6 or 12 month top-up session if you feel it is needed. Keeping a healthy lifestyle with a good diet and regular exercise is the key to maintain your results in the longer term and avoid regaining unwanted fat.
