Skin Pen® Scar Reduction

Improve skin texture, reduce acne scarring and pigmentation with microneedling and SkinPen® with Dr Gita Arora at ERA Skin & Laser Clinic in Oxfordshire, serving Thame, Aylesbury, and Oxford.

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that helps minimise the signs of ageing, improve the appearance of acne scars, and rejuvenate ageing skin. Our microneedling is performed using SkinPen®, a medical-grade, state-of-the-art microneedling tool available only through medical professionals.

SkinPen® was awarded ‘Top Rated Treatment for Acne Scars’ and ‘Top Skin Care Device’ in the Aesthetic Everything® 2019 Aesthetic and Cosmetic Medicine Awards.

How It Works

The SkinPen® microneedling device causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process. The micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to the remodelling of collagen and elastin.

FAQ's

What areas of the skin can be treated?

SkinPen’s® variable needle depth allows for maximum versatility, making it safe and effective to use on many parts of the body, including the face, neck, and décolletage.

It is clinically proven to help with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, enlarged pores, and acne scars.

Will I need a consultation for SkinPen microneedling?

We will discuss your needs and expected results as part of your initial consultation.

What can I expect during treatment?

A topical anaesthetic or numbing cream is applied prior to treatment to avoid discomfort. Generally, patients report feeling just the slight vibration of the SkinPen® as it moves around the area during the treatment. The specialised tip holds a cartridge of thin needles that penetrate the skin rapidly to a depth of approximately 1mm.

How long does SkinPen microneedling take?

The treatment typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size and number of areas treated and the degree of treatment requested.

How many treatment sessions are recommended?

The number of procedures required will be based upon your individual procedure goals and the overall health of your skin. Most patients receive a series of 3 procedures spaced about 4 weeks apart.

Is SkinPen safe?

SkinPen uses a single-use needle cartridge with a new one attached for each treatment, making it safe and sterile. The handpiece is also surrounded by a special sheath or plastic-type bag which acts as a cross-contamination tool and is replaced for each new patient.

Does SkinPen hurt?

To reduce any discomfort, we use a topical anaesthetic or numbing cream that is applied before treatment starts so you have a pain-free experience.

Is there downtime after SkinPen treatment?

The total healing time depends on the individual. Most patients have some slight swelling and redness/pinkness (like a mild to moderate sunburn) for two to four days following the microneedling procedure. Some people may see their skin return to normal in about 24 hours.

You should avoid applying make-up to your skin during this time.

When will I see results?

Individual results will vary. The natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress through the course of several weeks. Damage that has occurred over an extensive period will not disappear immediately. You may not see the final result for up to six months following your final session.

How long does SkinPen treatment last?

Skin ageing continues, but the results from SkinPen treatments can be long-lasting because it stimulates the repair and wound healing responses in your body. This is particularly the case when treating scarring. Therefore, most people note results lasting 6 months to a year after a course of treatments, but in some cases, it can be many years. We recommend maintenance treatments every 6 months or so to keep further ageing at bay.

Who will carry out my SkinPen treatment?

At ERA Skin and Laser Clinic in Thame, Oxfordshire, SkinPen microneedling treatment is carried out by Dr Gita Arora, a medical doctor with over 10 years’ experience who has a special interest in Dermatology.
