Everything you need to know about Lip Fillers!

The perfect pout. Don’t we all want it? Full, symmetrical lips with a cupid bow to die for. The good news is that you can subtly improve the volume and shape of your lips and achieve a plumper and natural look.

Gone are the days when lip augmentation was only for the rich and famous. With the latest advancements in dermal fillers, getting your lips fuller is safe and easily affordable.

This is why lip fillers have become one of the most sought-after, non-surgical aesthetic treatments in the UK. If you have been having doubts about getting yours done or are still a little curious about how the treatment works, we are going to give you the latest low-down. So get a cup of tea and make yourself comfortable.

What are fillers made of?

Dermal fillers have come a very long way since we saw the trend of bigger, perfect lips during the Supermodel phenomenon of the nineties. Today the products used for lip enhancement are much more sophisticated and safe. They are made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is found naturally in our body, which means it doesn’t try to fight it or get rid of it. On most cases, once injected into the skin, our body easily absorbs it, breaking it down over a period of few months.

Hyaluronic acid’s main function is to retain water to keep our tissues well lubricated and hydrated. The natural amount our body produces, however, decreases as we age, making our skin drier and as a result, contributing to the appearance of wrinkles.

Filler injections, therefore, can actually add to the replenishing of your body’s natural production of hyaluronic acid, improving the quality of your skin complexion by increasing its moisture.

There are a number of different hyaluronic acid-based products in the market. One of the most well-known and trusted brands is Juvederm. Within its range, they have developed a number of products all with different properties. For lips, the best two are from the Juvederm Vycross range: Juvederm Vobella for more subtle lips and Juvederm Volift for a more noticeable but still natural enhancement.

When should you consider having lip enhancement?

Whether you are born with thin or standard-size lips, you can get lip fillers to add volume and make them plumper. Fillers are also great for enhancing their actual shape, emphasising your cupid bow and creating a more defined smile. In addition, they can also be used for the area surrounding the mouth to give it a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

How quickly can you see the results?

Lip enhancement is an instant procedure, so you will be able to see the results straight after the injections. Your lips may be slightly swollen for a period of 24 hours, but after that, you’ll have the final result.

If your lips are thin and you are looking to get a very full look, you may need to have a few sessions before achieving the desired results. Lip augmentation doesn’t happen overnight, it is a bespoke process and your aesthetic doctor shall be able to advice you on the number of sessions you need for the most natural result.

How long do lips filler last?

This varies from patient to patient, depending on the product that has been used, age, lifestyle, etc. On average, you can stretch one treatment to a year, however, top-up sessions every 6-8 months are recommended to maintain the desired fuller size.

A good way of ensuring they last you the most is to drink plenty of water and keep your skin well-hydrated.

Does the procedure hurt?

Your mouth is one of the most sensitive areas of your body, so you’ll experience some discomfort during the injections. Most practitioners provide their patients with a numbing gel to minimise the risk of experiencing pain.

Would you feel the filler inside your lips?

When the procedure is carried out by a professional aesthetic doctor, you shouldn’t feel anything different from your natural lips.

What happen if something goes wrong?

If your body experiences an allergic reaction to the fillers, there is an enzyme that can be injected into the area to dissolve the product and reverse the effect. It is, however, extremely rare with hyaluronic acid fillers.

If you’re ready to get your dream lips in 2020 and a beautiful mouth that boost your confidence, we have a fabulous offer in January: £150 for 1/2 ml and £200 for 1 ml.
